ADRIAN, Mich. - The women's basketball team opened their season schedule with a 72-54 loss to Adrian on Friday night.
The Panthers opened with a slow start, shooting just 21 percent in the first quarter and falling behind 25-8 after the first stanza. Adrian tacked on three points to their lead in the second quarter and carried a 42-22 lead to halftime.
In the third quarter, Adrian outdistanced Greenville 18-15, but the Panthers managed to reduce the final deficit under 20 points by outscoring Adrian 17-12 in the final quarter.
Madelyn Stephen opened her sophomore season with a 14 point, eight rebound effort, leading GU in both categories.
Greenville ended the game by converting less than one-third of their shot attempts (19-of-60), and they made 5-of-21 three-point tries.
Haven Robertson posted 10 points, and Ally Cantrill, Ashley Anderson, and Amanda Brooks all had seven points.
The Panthers (0-1) stay at Adrian overnight and will play the Bulldogs again on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT.
