GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team earned a key conference win in the first game of league play on Wednesday with a 71-66 victory against Webster, last season's SLIAC representative in the NCAA Division III national tournament and defending league champion.

The Panthers slipped behind early in the first quarter and faced a five point deficit before scoring the last 10 points of the first quarter and securing a 21-16 advantage after the first stanza.

In the second quarter, Greenville pushed their lead to as many as 16 points before settling on a lead of 39-28 at halftime.

Webster turned the tide in the third period, coming out with an energetic press that eventually put them ahead 45-41.  Despite this, the Panthers pulled back ahead by one at 46-45 going into the final period.

The fourth quarter featured several lead changes, but Greenville took their final lead on a layup by Ashley Anderson in the last minute of the game.  Later, a missed three pointer by Webster gave the Panthers possession, and Emily Reinneck was on the receiving end of a flagrant foul that took her to the line with a 67-66 lead and 15 seconds to play.  Reinneck knocked done both free throws, and Greenville received possession.  Reinneck was fouled again with 10 seconds to go and made both, allowing GU to go ahead 71-66 and win the game.

Reinneck finished the game with 26 points to lead all scorers and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds.

The Panthers (2-6, 1-0 SLIAC) travel to Spalding on Saturday.
