Women's basketball nearly completes comeback in loss to Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The women's basketball team saw their winning streak snapped after three games with a 76-70 loss at Fontbonne.

A 24-9 deficit in the first quarter was too much for the Panthers to overcome in their first loss since Feb. 13.

Greenville shaved five points away from the Griffins lead with a 17-12 second quarter and looked at a 36-26 deficit when they went to the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Panthers outscored Fontbonne 22-13, making the score 49-48 after three periods.

Fontbonne put the game away with a 27-22 fourth quarter advantage.

Three Panthers reached double figures in the scoring column for the Panthers. Emily Reinneck led the team with 19 points, and Ashley Anderson and Madelyn Stephen each had 10 points.

Stephen, Reinneck, and Payten Morris all had five rebounds, and Stephen and Ally Cantrill led GU with four assists.

Amanda Brooks and Morris each added two steals for GU.

The Panthers (4-7) host Westminster in a SLIAC contest on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
