Women's basketball drops Blackburn for second time

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team closed out the SLIAC regular season with a 78-67 win over Blackburn to clinch the No. 3 seed in the SLIAC tournament.

The Panthers trailed 18-13 after the first quarter and 32-27 at halftime.

Greenville outscored Blackburn 51-35 in the second half to take the win.

Madelyn Stephen provided 15 to finish as Greenville's leading scorer.

Emily Reinneck, Amanda Brooks, and Lauren Eagleson all ended with 11 points for Greenville.

Reinneck also added seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals to lead the squad in all three categories. Stephen joined Reinneck with four assists, and Ally Cantrill and Haven Robertson provided two steals.

The Panthers shot 46.6 percent in the game, making 27-of-58 shot attempts. They went 5-of-17 for a 29.4 percent mark behind the three point line and sank 19-of-24 free throws to finish just shy of 80 percent.

The Panthers (8-9, 6-3 SLIAC) will host Fontbonne in Greenville on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal of the SLIAC tournament.
