Women's basketball returns to SLIAC semifinals

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team advanced deeper in the SLIAC tournament with an 81-54 quarterfinal win over Fontbonne on Wednesday night.

The Panthers, who had lost by six points earlier this year at Fontbonne, left no doubt in the outcome of this contest with a 15-8 first quarter lead and a 37-19 advantage at halftime.

In the third and fourth quarters, the Panthers did not let up, leading 58-34 after the third period and eventually taking the 81-54 decision.

Greenville's scoring column was led by three players who exceeded 10 points.

Madelyn Stephen ended as GU's top scorer with a 14 point game. Ashley Anderson added 13 points, and Ally Cantrill produced 11 points.

Emily Reinneck totaled nine rebounds, eight assists, two steals, two blocked shots, and seven points in her well-rounded effort.

Greenville ended with a 33-of-66 shooting performance from the field, including a 6-of-12 mark behind the three-point line.

The Panthers (9-9) play at Westminster on Friday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals of the SLIAC tournament.  Greenville will be looking to avenge their regular season loss against Westminster in their tournament contest.
