Women's basketball drops SLIAC semifinal at Westminster

FULTON, Mo. - The women's basketball season came to its conclusion on Friday with an 86-82 loss to Westminster in overtime during the semifinals of the SLIAC tournament.

Greenville's Madelyn Stephen, which represented Greenville on the all-tournament team, ended with a double-double, posting 20 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots in the game.

Ashley Anderson finished with 16 points, and Emily Reinneck had 15 points.

The Panthers led in the first half, taking a 19-18 lead after the first quarter and a 40-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, GU stretched their lead to 51-36, but the Blue Jays managed to trim Greenville's lead to 57-54 by the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the teams shared the lead, and they ended regulation tied at 69-all.

In the extra period, the game was knotted at 78-all with 42 seconds to play, and Westminster managed to make six consecutive free throws down the stretch when Greenville missed at the line, and that was the difference in the end result.

The Panthers ended the 2020-21 shortened season with a record of 9-10, and they were third in the SLIAC standings with a record of 6-3.
