Women's basketball topped 66-56 at Westminster

FULTON, Mo. - The women's basketball team dropped a 66-56 decision at Westminster on Wednesday night. The Panthers outscored the Blue Jays 33-30 in the second half, and Adeline Goheen led GU in scoring with 13 points.

A rough first quarter saw the Panthers trailing 20-8 after the period, and Westminster added a point to their lead in the second quarter to take a 36-23 advantage to the locker room.

In the third quarter, GU came out firing and cut into the lead with a 19-14 quarter to take the deficit down to 50-42 after three periods.

Westminster recovered and added two points to their lead in the final stanza for the win.

GU's leading scorer Goheen made 5-of-12 field goal attempts and 1-of-4 three-pointers while converting both of her free throws.

No other GU scorer reached double figures, but Savana Powell-Goodman and Maddy Meek each had nine points.

Meek finished as the Panthers top rebounder with nine, finishing just one point and one rebound short of a double-double.

Sophia Cisneros collected eight rebounds, and Mia deJesus added seven rebounds.

Carolina Hoffman, Sierra Compton, and Goheen each had two assists, and Hoffman tallied two steals.

The Panthers (4-4, 1-1 SLIAC) will host conference preseason favorite Webster on Saturday at 1 p.m. in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
