Women's soccer maintains first place SLIAC record with 4-1 win at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The women's soccer team held their first place SLIAC position with a 4-1 victory at Spalding on Wednesday.

The Panthers set the tone in the first half when they recorded three goals.

Kate Arthur opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a penalty kick.

In the 19th minute, Arthur took a free kick which was headed by Ellie Cummins to Molly McDonnell for the goal.

Before the end of the half, Breanna Thomas made the score 3-0 when she beat defenders and shot the ball to the top right and into the net in the 41st minute.

In the 81st minute, Arthur added her second goal of the match.

Greenville goalkeeper Marjory Coates stopped five shots and was only kept from the shutout when Spalding snuck a ball past her in the final minute of the match.

GU took 19 shots in the match, including 11 on goal. Arthur and Jen De Leon De Leon paced Greenville's offensive efforts with four shots apiece.

The Panthers (8-5-2, 5-0-1 SLIAC) will host Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday at 7 p.m. as they attempt to hold first place in the conference standings.
