Women's soccer collects scoreless draw against Rose-Hulman

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's soccer team played their first home game of the season on Wednesday evening. Greenville tied Rose-Hulman 0-0.

It was an even matchup between the Panthers and the Fightin' Engineers. Both teams had many scoring opportunities throughout the game, but the goalkeepers protected the net well. Greenville had a total of six saves: Madison Ashford with two and Addison Miller with four.

During the first ten minutes of the game, the Panthers managed to get four shots off. Katelyn Christensen had two: one that just missed left of the net and another that Rose-Hulman's keeper saved. Allyson Shultz and Emma Caldwell each had a shot on goal as well.

The game slowed down a little in the remaining thirty-five minutes of the half. Greenville was able to get four more shots off but couldn't put themselves on the scoreboard.

In the second half, the Panthers created more potential scoring opportunities with six more shots. With less than ten minutes left in the game, Angie Stedman fought her way up the middle of the field against multiple Rose-Hulman defenders. She had a solid shot on goal, but the keeper unfortunately saved it. This was the last shot of the game for Greenville.

In the 87th minute, the Fightin' Engineers had a breakaway where GU's goalie, Madison Ashford, came out of the box to stop the player with the ball. The play resulted in a red card for Ashford, giving Rose-Hulman a free kick right outside the box. The shot missed high, and the game ended 0-0.

The Panthers (0-2-1) will travel to Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday to face Rhodes at noon.
