Women's tennis squeaks past Cornell 5-4

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The women's tennis team was a 5-4 winner over Cornell College on Saturday.

The Panthers were victorious in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles and took wins in No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 singles.

In the doubles competitions, the No. 1 duo of Mireia Birosta and Addison Brannon won 8-4. In No. 3 doubles, Noelle Beans and Samantha Siefken rolled 8-0.

In singles, No. 1 Birosta dominated her opponent in a 6-0, 6-0 win.

No. 2 Addison Brannon defeated her opponent in a grueling and tight match. Brannon lost the first set 7-5 before coming back to win the second set 6-4 and the third set tiebreaker 11-9.

No. 4 Shaling Reynolds had a challenge from her opponent but still managed to win 6-3, 7-5.

The Panthers (3-1) will compete next Friday against Belhaven and Covenant at Covenant.
