Women's track and field captures wins by Sharp in heptathlon and triple jump at North Central NCAA Qualifier

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The women's track and field team had three members - Cayden Sharp, Tawny Rodriguez, and Olivia Mansfield - participate at the Gregory NCAA qualifier at North Central on Wednesday and Thursday.  Sharp distinguished herself with wins in the heptathlon and triple jump.

In the heptathlon Sharp posted a score of 4488, winning the competition.  Her score was her career best and gave her solid footing in the NCAA Division III qualifier rankings.

Sharp had the top time in the 100 meter hurdles of the heptathlon, completing the race in 15.29 seconds. Additionally, she posted a time of 25.66 seconds in the 200 meter dash, taking first. She accrued 827 points with her time in the 200 and 804 points with her performance in the hurdles.

She also finished first in the high jump with a mark of 1.59 meters (5-2.5) and was first among heptathletes in the long jump with a distance of 5.50 meters (18-0.5). Her long jump attempt was her season's best.

Sharp was fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:38.42. Her throw of 26.70 meters (87-7) was also fifth in the javelin.

She had an attempt of 8.44 meters (27-8.25) in the shot put, ranking eighth.

Outside of the multi-events, Sharp ended as the winner in the triple jump, leaping to a distance of 11.59 meters (38 feet-0.25 inches). The attempt was only two hundredths of a meter, less than one inch, behind her season best.

In the discus competition, Rodriguez sent an attempt 40.41 meters (132-7), putting her in the third place position.

Mansfield earned sixth place in the 800 meter run, clocking a time of 2:23.25.

Sharp is projected to earn a bid to the NCAA Division III national meet in the heptathlon with her point total currently ranking 17th.
