Cayden Sharp places 14th in heptathlon at NCAA Division III nationals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The women's track and field team received a 14th place overall finish from Cayden Sharp in the NCAA Division III outdoor national championships on Friday.

Sharp accrued 4209 points in the event comprised of 19 competitors. She entered the championships with the number 17 seeded score and bettered that seed with her finish.

Sharp started the day in one of her stronger events, the long jump. After a scratch in her first attempt, she leapt to 5.28 meters (17 feet-4 inches) in her second attempt and 5.04 meters in the final try. She placed ninth of the 18 remaining competitors, earning 637 points.

In her next event, the javelin, she placed 17th with a top throw of 23.70 meters (77-9). Just as she did in the long jump, her first attempt was a scratch, but she threw 20.53 meters in her second try before her long attempt on the final try. Her javelin result gave her 358 points.

Sharp concluded her two-day event in the 800 meter run by clocking a time of 2:44.03 for 14th place and 528 points.

The top eight positions are scoring spots, so Greenville ended with no score in the championships.
