Women's track and field earns second place at Greenville Select Meet

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's track and field team placed second to the nation's number one Washington-St. Louis women's track and field team in a meet at Francis Field on Saturday. GU placed second of the 16 teams.

Laila Graham posted the win in the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters (5 feet-2.25 inches).

Talahiva Talanoa gave GU a sweep with wins in all three of her events. She finished on top in the discus with an attempt of 41.46 meters (136-0). She earned first in the hammer with a best throw of 53.14 meters (174-4), and she placed first in the shot put with a mark of 13.45 meters (44-1.5).

Emma Brown picked up a win in the javelin with a throw of 38.61 meters (126-8), and Abbi Thomason placed second with a distance of 37.16 meters (121-11) in the javelin.

Sara Yakana jumped 5.55 meters (18-2.5) in the long jump to record second place, and Yakana's mark of 11.91 meters (39-1) in the triple jump placed second.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Taylor Tucker, Graham, Jocelyn Fritz, and Yakana took second in 47.45 seconds.

Gretchen Carie grinded out a second place showing in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:53.03.

Brook Schutt completed the 5000 meter run in 20:18.24 for second place.

The women head to Rose-Hulman for a Friday twilight meet on April 19.
