Women's volleyball completes decade with 10th 20 win season

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The women's volleyball team defeated Blackburn and Spalding in a pair of SLIAC matches on Saturday.

The wins brought Greenville's total to 20 victories this season, the 10th straight season the Panthers reached 20 or more wins. Over the last 10 seasons, the Panthers have gone 235-82 with five NCAA national tournament appearances.

The Panthers took a 25-16, 25-21, 25-23 victory over Blackburn in the day's opening match.

Greenville's Jasmin Smith managed a total of 14 kills and completed a double-double with 16 digs.

Teammate Maci Bonacorsi helped the attack with nine kills.

Setters Jordan Lempa and Kaitlin Murray combined for 36 assists. Lempa led GU with 21 assists.

Chasity Hill paced the Panthers with 24 digs.

At the net, Emily Stahl provided one solo block and two block assists.

In the second match, Greenville came away with a 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22 victory over a much-improved Spalding team.

The Panthers featured four players who produced double figure efforts in kills. Smith was again the team leader with 13 kills and also added 19 digs. Bonacorsi added 11 kills, and Anna Finch and Stahl each had 10 kills.

The setting efforts were led by Lempa with 25 assists.

Hill again provided a team-high with 28 digs, and Greenville blocked six of Spalding's attacks.

The Panthers (20-7, 15-1 SLIAC) host MacMurray on Tuesday at 7 p.m. where a win will guarantee Greenville their ninth SLIAC regular season championship in the last 10 years.
