Women's volleyball earns ninth SLIAC regular season title of the decade

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's volleyball team defeated MacMurray in three sets on Tuesday night to give Greenville its ninth SLIAC regular season championship in the last 10 years and the right to host the SLIAC tournament on November 9.

The Panthers came out on top with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 victory.

Greenville turned up the pressure in the last half of each set, taking sets that were either 14-14 or 14-13 and going either 11-5 or 11-4 over the remainder of the set.

The Panthers received seven of Anna Finch's team-high 13 kills in the first set, and Jasmin Smith posted four kills in the second and third sets on the way to an 11-kill effort.

Smith ended with a double-double for the 10th time this season and fourth consecutive match by providing 17 digs. Chasity Hill was GU's leader with 20 digs.

Finch provided one solo block and two block assists at the net.

Setters Kaitlin Murray and Jordan Lempa each had 17 of Greenville's 41 set assists.

Overall, the Panthers compiled a .225 hitting percentage with 46 kills, 15 errors, and 138 attacks.

Greenville was strongest in the first set with a 16/3/48/.271 hitting line.

Finch ended with a line of 13/2/19/.579. It was the third time this season that she ended with a hitting percentage above .575 and second time against MacMurray.

The Panthers (21-7, 16-1 SLIAC) host Spalding on Friday at 7 p.m. in their final conference match of the season.
