Women's volleyball clinches outright SLIAC league title

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's volleyball team defeated Spalding in three sets on Friday night and collected their fifth outright league championship in the last seven seasons. Overall, the Panthers have won nine of the last 10 SLIAC league championships.

GU took a 25-21 win in the opening set and followed that with a 25-13 second set. After serving for the match three times in the third, the Panthers converted their fourth match point, taking a 28-26 victory in the final set.

Greenville middles Emily Stahl and Anna Finch combined for 20 kills in the match. Stahl ended with 13 kills, two errors, and 19 attacks, compiling a hitting percentage of .579. Stahl also had one solo block and two block assists.

Jasmin Smith stopped a flurry of Spalding attacks, ending with 21 digs.

Jordan Lempa had the primary setting role for Greenville and collected 25 set assists.

The Panthers (22-7, 17-1 SLIAC) tied the 2013 and 2015 squads with 17 league victories. The Panthers host WashU on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in their final regular season contest.
