Women's volleyball returns to court with four-set win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The women's volleyball team dropped a tight first set but stormed back to take the next three sets in convincing fashion in their four-set victory over Spalding on Friday night. The match was their first competition against an outside team after their fall season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The Panthers fell in the opening set 25-23 but rolled to 25-14, 25-12, 25-16 victories in the next three sets to win the match.

In Greenville's 25-12 win in the third set, the Panthers produced 14 kills and just two errors in 34 attack attempts to finish with a .353 hitting percentage.

Amanda Hollis opened her Greenville career as GU's leader in kills with 12. Jasmin Smith and Emily Stahl each posted 11 kills.

Primary setter Jordan Lempa provided 34 assists.

Greenville's defense was led by Smith with 18 digs and Hollis with 17 digs. Chasity Hill produced 14 digs.

GU ended the match with 54 kills and 15 errors in 153 attacks and a hitting rate of .255. Smith added a pair of service aces.

The Panthers (1-0, 1-0 SLIAC) host Eureka on Tuesday night in H.J. Long Gymnasium with first serve scheduled at 7 p.m. Spectators will not be permitted to attend the match.
