Women's volleyball drops three-set match at Westminster

FULTON, Mo. - The women's volleyball team faced the defending SLIAC tournament and NCAA Division III tournament qualifying Westminster squad on Wednesday night in Missouri and lost in a three-set showdown of two teams that were chosen by SLIAC coaches to win the spring conference championship.

Westminster took control of the match early, wrapping up a 25-18 win in the first set. Greenville made the score tighter in the second set but still fell short 25-22.

In the third set, Greenville held a 18-12 lead, but the Blue Jays recorded five consecutive points to make the score 18-17.  The Panthers eventually worked their set lead back to three points and had two opportunities to win the set with one point after taking a lead of 24-22. However, Westminster was up for the challenge, converting three straight points for a 25-24 lead and eventually gaining a 27-25 win in the third set.

Greenville had a difficult night on the attack, converting just 23 kills with 14 errors in 94 attempts.

Haley Banks, Mia Bonacorsi, and Jasmin Smith were GU's leaders in kills with four each.

Chasity Hill had 15 digs in the back row for the Panthers, and Emily Stahl tallied two block assists.

The Panthers (3-1, 3-1 SLIAC) travel to Webster on Saturday for a match at 11 a.m.
