No. 25 women's volleyball sweeps Blackburn in three sets

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's volleyball team played their second match since being recognized as the No. 25 ranked squad in NCAA Division III and won 25-14, 25-11, 25-14 in H.J. Long Gymnasium on Friday night.

Mia Bonacorsi managed to lead GU with 12 kills and just three errors on 25 swings while recording a .360 hitting percentage. She completed a double-double by adding 11 digs and also posted a team-high four service aces.

Sacorra Patton was right behind Bonacorsi with a 10 kill evening and three errors in 18 attempts. She posted a hitting percentage of .389.

Jordan Lempa and Kaitlin Murray effectively ran the offense during the evening. Lempa picked up 20 assists, and Murray added 16.

"I think ball control was a big deal for us tonight and able to keep us in system for the whole night," said head coach Tom Ackerman. "I'm really proud of the kids for staying on point and doing the things we needed to do."

The Panthers ended the evening with 46 kills and 12 errors on 96 swings and posted an overall hitting percentage of .354. They were the strongest in the final set as they put Blackburn away with 22 kills and four errors on 38 attempts and a hitting rate of .474.

The Panthers (6-1, 6-1 SLIAC) return to action at Iowa Wesleyan on Tuesday, March 2, as they begin their second journey through the conference schedule.
