No. 16 women's volleyball clinches 10th SLIAC regular season title

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The No. 16 women's volleyball team earned their 10th SLIAC championship in the last 11 years with a three-set 25-19, 25-18, 25-14 victory on Thursday night.

GU produced a run of seven SLIAC championships from 2010-16 and extended its current stretch to three seasons (2018-21) of regular season conference championships.

As a result of this win, Greenville has clinched one of the top two seeds in the SLIAC tournament that begins next Saturday. They will likely share the championship with either Webster or Westminster.

Even though this year's SLIAC tournament does not carry an automatic bid to an NCAA Division III tournament, the Panthers will be striving for their sixth tournament title and fifth in the last six seasons.

Against Fontbonne, the Panthers hit .280 in the match with 46 kills and just 13 errors. Greenville received nine kills from Amanda Hollis, Emily Stahl, and Jasmin Smith as setters Jordan Lempa and Kaitlin Murray passed out the attack opportunities.

Lempa finished with 31 assists, and Murray collected 13 assists.

Greenville accumulated nine aces with four from Mia Bonacorsi and three from Lempa.

Defensively, the Panthers picked up 63 digs. Chasity Hill tallied 19 digs, and Bonacorsi added 17 digs.

Greenville had seven blocks in the match with four block assists credited to Stahl. Smith provided three block assists.

The Panthers (13-2, 11-2 SLIAC) will resume their season on March 27 in the SLIAC tournament against either Eureka or Iowa Wesleyan at H.J. Long Gymnasium.
