Baseball falls in doubleheader to Lyon

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team fell in both ends of a SLIAC doubleheader at home on Wednesday afternoon. GU lost game one 4-0 and then suffered a 19-4 defeat in seven innings in game two.

The Panthers could only muster four hits in game one as the Lyon hurler delivered a nine-inning complete game shutout.

Snyder Pennington posted a 2-for-3 afternoon at the plate and also reached on a walk.

Brexton Beard and Dylan Hill also delivered hits.

Braden Maltbie started on the mound and held Lyon to two runs on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over five innings. Luke Fleener and Terry Millikan each pitched two innings of relief and only allowed a run each.

Game two went the way of the Scots when an eight run third inning broke a 4-4 tie, giving Lyon a 12-4 lead. LC added four runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Landon Mokris hit a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with one run scored and two RBI, and George Schneider went 2-for-3 from the leadoff slot with one run scored.

Greenville's pitching struggled to prevent runs, but a bright spot came in the form of Austin Moses who pitched two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts to end the game.

The Panthers (6-17, 0-4 SLIAC) travel to Fontbonne for a doubleheader on Saturday.
