GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team had another conference split, losing game one against Fontbonne (6-1) but redeeming themselves in game two (14-4).
How it Happened:
Game 1
Greenville took an early lead in the second inning when Michael Gibson belted a solo home run to left field.
However, the Panthers' bats went cold after that, managing just four more hits the rest of the game.
Fontbonne responded in the third inning, scoring three runs. The Griffins added two more in the fifth and capitalized on an eighth-inning error to pad their lead.
Dax Bailey took the loss, surrendering three runs on four hits over four innings.
Despite a strong relief effort from Cade Buehnerkemper, Greenville's offense couldn't mount a comeback.
Game 2
The Panthers cruised to a 14-4 victory over the Griffins in game two.
Greenville jumped out to a quick lead, scoring three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Miggy Villalobos.
They added four more in the second, including a solo shot from Wilson Decker, to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Fontbonne fought back in the third with a three-run homer and an inside-the-park homerun in the fifth, cutting the deficit to 7-4.
However, Greenville responded with a three-run sixth inning, powered by another Villalobos homer, and put the game away with four more runs in the seventh.
Winning pitcher Dawson Hope struck out eight over five innings, while Villalobos led the offense with five RBIs. Greenville finished with 13 hits to Fontbonne's seven.
