Clapper brings home floor title in opening meet
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The men's gymnastics team opened their season with a tri-meet against Michigan and Simpson. Greenville finished second with a 299.450, right behind Michigan. The Panthers had an impressive outing, including a first-place finish in floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Panthers had an amazing showing in vault, scoring a 55.000, following it up with a 49.850 in the horizontal bar. Their next best was in the parallel bars with a 48.900.
Vault Highlights:
Ricky Mays led GU in the vault, finishing third with a 14.200.
Brayden Erickson followed him, scoring a 13.700 and tying for fifth.
Horizontal Bar Highlights:
Showcasing his skills, Jacob Foster was the highest-scoring Panther, earning a 12.900 and landing in fourth place.
Donovan Diviney was close behind with a 12.550 at sixth place.
Parallel Bars Highlights:
With a silver finish, Diviney posted a 12.900 in the parallel bars, and Foster tied for third with his 12.550.
Floor Highlights:
Jaxon Clapper brought home the floor title for the Panthers, collecting a 13.200 with his first-place routine.
Andres Esquival followed with a 12.600 in fifth place.
Pommel Horse Highlights:
Esquival also showed out in pommel, earning second place with a 13.100, only trailing first place by .600!
Matthew Roth placed sixth with his 12.650.
Still Rings Highlights:
Sergey Popov and Elijah Cruz gave GU the best performance in the rings, tying for seventh with marks of 12.550.
Mays followed them with a 12.400.
