FULTON, Mo. - The men's soccer team dropped their SLIAC quarterfinal to Westminster on Tuesday night, falling by a 1-0 final score.
The Panthers allowed a goal to slip past goalkeeper Gerardo Lopez in the 17th minute of the contest, and GU was unable to tie the match.
Greenville led Westminster in shots, producing 10 in the match. The Blue Jays had eight shots. Greenville outshot Westminster 6-5 in the first half and 4-3 in the second half. GU totaled five shots on goal.
The Panthers pressured Westminster late in the match. Jared McPeek had a shot stopped in the 82nd minute, and Luis Duran, who led Greenville with four shots, attempted a shot on goal in the 84th minute. GU's final attempt, a free kick with six and a half seconds remaining, was deflected away.
Lopez ended the match with six saves after protecting the net for 90 minutes.
The Panthers (4-7-3) will play Washington-St. Louis in an exhibition match in Greenville on Monday at 7 p.m.
