ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The men's soccer team played a dominating match against Fontbonne on Saturday on the road, taking a 5-2 win.
The Panthers recorded a goal in the 11th minute of the match when Gabriel Sule sent a ball past the bottom left far post with an assist from Napoleon Urquidi for a 1-0 lead.
Twenty-two minutes later Pedro Gonzalez-Moro added a goal with an assist from Patricio Pichardo, and Kyle Sunderland took a pass from Pablo Valverde and provided a goal to increase the Panther lead to 3-0.
In the second half, Valverde made the score 4-0 in the 59th minute with Jared McPeek earning the assist.
After Fontbonne cut the lead to 4-2 with a pair of goals, Joaquin Caceres provided a goal for GU in the 78th minute.
The Panthers led Fontbonne 12-8 in shots and had a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Hiram Cruz played nearly 63 minutes as goalkeeper and did not allow a goal while collecting two saves.
Sunderland, Gonzalez-Moro, and Sule all tallied two shots for GU.
The Panthers (2-2-3, 2-0-2 SLIAC) will put their undefeated conference record on the line on Wednesday when Westminster comes to Greenville for a match at 5 p.m.
