GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team faced a tough outing as they were defeated 5-0 by Aurora. Even with some remarkable shots and incredible saves, the Panthers struggled to contain the Spartans' offense.
How it Happened:
1st Half
GU came out aggressive with two shots in the first two minutes. Gerardo Alarcon and Andres Garcia both attempted to put the Panthers on the board early, but unfortunately, the shots didn't land.
Aurora put one in during the ninth minute, and Greenville responded with two more unsuccessful shots.
The Spartans scored again in the 18th and 25th minutes, making it 3-0 before halftime.
Greenville posted five shots and four saves in the first half.
2nd Half
Aurora scored right out of the gate in the second forty-five, making it 4-0 just twenty-six seconds into the half.
Four minutes later, the Spartans tacked on another goal, but the Panthers fought back with a more aggressive offense and multiple shots on goal.
GU put up six shots in the second half but was unable to post one on the board.
Braulio Martinez led the Panthers' offense with four shots, while Alvaro Marchal was in the goal for GU, collecting five saves.
