GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team was victorious in their home match versus Loras, defeating the Duhawks 2-1.
How it Happened:
1st Half
Ivan Cano-Mayayo, Gabriel Sule, and Matheus Reis all tried putting GU on the board early in the game. Unfortunately, all were unsuccessful and Loras jumped on top in the 23rd minute.
That didn't stop the Panthers though; just six minutes later, Braulio Martinez rushed the goal to score with an assist from Cano-Mayayo, tying up the game 1-1.
2nd Half
Even though the Loras offense came out aggressive in the second half, GU prevailed. After a foul, Andres Garcia readied himself for a freekick right outside of the eighteen. Garcia sent it in during the 64th minute to take the 2-1 lead.
Reis and Martinez got a couple more shots off before the end of the game, but none landed. The Panthers collected their first win of the season.
Valon Ismaili was Greenville's keeper for the full ninety and had five saves.
