GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team opened up conference play with a 2-0 win against Fontbonne. Rafael Navas drilled both goals into the back of the net to put the Panthers on top.
How it Happened:
1st Half
Greenville came out of the gate hot, putting four shots on goal in the first thirteen minutes.
In the 16th minute, Navas sent one in with an assist from Ivan Cano-Mayayo. A few minutes later, Navas tried another shot but missed high.
Then he buried another one in the 25th minute, this time with an assist from Matheus Reis.
Leading 2-0, the Panthers attempted five more shots before the half was up but didn't have any luck.
2nd Half
Greenville put up eleven more shots in the second half but the score remained at 2-0 until the very end.
The Panthers outshot the Griffins 23-5 overall with Navas leading at six shots.
Valon Ismaili protected the net for GU, collecting one save in his ninety minutes.
