Nathan Potts ‘18 joined the Greenville Cross Country/Track & Field coaching staff in the spring of 2021. Potts currently serves as an assistant coach for the program with a focus on the distance group and recruiting. In his spare time, Potts is a Certified Public Accountant for Patton and Company, PC in Hillsboro. Prior to Patton and Company, Potts worked for PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Peoria for over two years.

As a student, Potts double majored in Accounting and Business Management graduating with a 3.94 GPA. Potts was a seven time Academic All-American and regularly led team study halls. On the track, Potts was a NCCAA National Champion five times over and shares four school records (600m, 4x800 (i), 4x800 (o) and DMR). As a senior, Potts helped lead the Greenville men to be the top ranked 800m group at the NCAA DIII level.

Coach Patton’s favorite athletic statistic to share of Potts’ is the fact that his senior year in high school he ran 2:06 for 800 meters and while a senior at Greenville he ran 1:51 for the same distance ranking him in the top 22 nationally.

Potts closed his collegiate career as the recipient of the NCCAA’s prestigious Wheeler Award, which is awarded to the top athletic, academic and spiritual contributor. In his nomination for the award, Coach Patton said, “In my 23 years of coaching at Greenville, I can name only one other person who has contributed to our program at the level Nathan has. I often consider Nathan more of an assistant coach than I do a student-athlete because of his dependability and input.”

“It is an honor to join the coaching staff at Greenville. This program has given me more than I could have ever asked for as a student-athlete and continues to bless my life as an alum. I look forward to being able to serve our current student-athletes and be a resource for the rest of the coaching staff,” said Potts.
