LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The men's cross country team was able to pick up the program's 13th SLIAC men's cross country championship title thanks to a strong team showing on Saturday.

The Panthers did not have a runner in the top five but took the sixth through 11th spots.

Greenville finished with 40 team points, the lowest team score since 2011.

The Panthers were paced by Jacob Burrell, who finished the race in a time of 26:43.

Greenville's six consecutive finishers came within 28 seconds of each other. After Burrell crossed the finish line, John Mangold took seventh place. The next four finishers were Nathan Allyn, Nathan Potts, Dylan Goodyear, and Jaylen Shelton which sealed the team win for the Panthers.  The pack of four crossed just two seconds apart. 

The 2016 SLIAC newcomer of the Year was Goodyear.  It was the ninth time Greenville had the conference's newcomer of the year and third straight season.

Head coach Brian Patton was awarded the coach of the year award for the ninth time individually.  Patton was also part of a coaching staff that earned the coach of the year award.

Greenville's first team all-conference awardees were Burrell and Mangold.  Allyn, Potts, Goodyear, and Shelton were second team honorees.

The men will return to action at their Panther Trials intrasquad on Friday, Nov. 4, as they prepare for the NCAA midwest regional on Nov. 12.
