Softball finishes spring trip with losses

NAPLES, Fla. – The softball team wrapped up their spring break trip in Florida with two losses against Coe and Wisconsin-Superior.

The first game was a close one between Coe and Greenville. The Panthers held Coe to only three runs with four hits. Coe scored all three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

GU had one hit during the game, produced by Madi Case. Case went 1-for-3 with a single to left field in the top of the sixth with two outs.

Sydnee Garrett threw another complete game for Greenville. Garrett faced 26 batters, striking out three and only allowing four hits. She received her first loss of the season after facing Coe.

The Panthers were short-gamed by Wis.-Superior, losing 10-1 in five innings. Wis.-Superior scored eight runs in the top of the third. Greenville responded with one run in the bottom of the inning. However, the Yellowjackets added two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to solidify the win.  

Greenville's offense showed up more in game two. The Panthers produced six hits, led by Jayden Zamora. Zamora went 1-for-3 with an RBI. She batted in Case in the bottom of the third with a single to center field.

Melissa Bernal and Valerie Greenley shared time on the rubber for game two. Bernal pitched the first 2.2 innings, gave up seven runs, and was given the loss. Greenley came in for relief in the third inning and pitched a total of 2.1 innings. Greenley allowed three runs.

Greenville finished their spring break trip with a 4-2 record on the week and an 8-2 overall record.

The Panthers hit the road to face Monmouth (Ill.) on Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
