JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The softball team extended its strong start to the season, sweeping Illinois College in their doubleheader on Tuesday evening. The Panthers won the first game 4-3 and took the second game 8-5.
How it Happened:
Game 1
Greenville held off a late Illinois College rally to secure a 4-3.
The Panthers struck first in the opening inning as Josie Grunloh scored on an error. Grunloh then added to the lead in the second with a two-run single, making it 3-1.
Sydnee Garrett's RBI double in the fifth provided a crucial insurance run.
Illinois College fought back with runs in the sixth and seventh, but Sarah Salas closed the game for the save.
Melissa Bernal (2-0) earned the win with six solid innings.
Game 2
The Panthers capitalized on early offensive success and withstood a late rally from the Lady Blues to remain unbeaten.
Greenville wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in each of the first four innings.
Ashlyn Colvis and Natalee Moore each drove in two runs, while Jayden Zamora contributed an RBI double in the third.
The Panthers tallied ten hits and built an 8-1 lead by the fourth inning.
Illinois College fought back in the sixth, plating four runs. However, Greenville's pitching held firm, with Destiny Dunlap (3-0) earning the win after allowing just one run over five innings.
Salas recorded another save.
