Women's gymnastics breaks program records in recent meets
Women's gymnastics has set three new school records within their past few meets, setting a new program and bar record at the Air Force/Boise State meet, and a new beam record against Illinois State.
GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's gymnastics team has set three new school records within their past few meets! The Panthers set a new program and bar record at the Air Force/Boise State meet, while also setting a new beam record against Illinois State. GU posted a 191.175 in the Air Force meet to place third, received an 189.325 against the Redbirds, and placed second in the Wilberforce/Fisk meet with a 185.300.
How it Happened:
Air Force/Boise State Meet
After setting two new records, the Panthers saw some great performances from Elli Schnieders, Ashlie Leage, and Ellery Gilmer.
In vault, Schnieders posted a 9.625 as the best Panther, while Olivia Tocco followed her with a 9.600.
Leage crushed it in bars and beam, showcasing a record-breaking routine on bars with a 9.800 mark and a 9.775 finish on beam.
Gilmer was the top GU gymnast on floor, earning a 9.675.
Amara Nelson competed in the all-around competition, placing third with a 37.650.
Illinois State Meet
In the Illinois St. meet, Nelson led Greenville with her first-place beam routine, posting a 9.850 to take the event title. She also did well on vault, tying for seventh alongside Schnieders with a 9.525. Nelson placed second in the all-around competition with a 37.400.
On floor, Rachel Miller represented GU with a 9.800, tying for fourth.
Leage landed in fifth place on bars with a score of 9.725.
Wilberforce/Fisk Meet
The Panthers had multiple top-three performances in this meet, seeing great scores from Leage, Nelson, Gilmer, and Miller.
Miller was the top GU performer on vault, earning a 9.575 for fourth place. Nelson was close behind with a 9.550.
Leage tied for third on bars with a mark of 9.500.
On beam, Nelson took second place, receiving a 9.775.
Greenville did really well on floor, taking the second and third-place spots. Gilmer posted a 9.750 to take second, while Nelson and Miller tied for third with 9.725s.
Nelson (38.175) and Leage (37.900) were entered in the all-around competition, earning third and fifth place respectively.
