SANDUSKY, Ohio – The women's volleyball team opened their season at Ohio Northern's Cedar Point Invitational. The Panthers went 1-2 on the weekend with losses against Ohio Northern and Case Western Reserve and a win against John Carroll.
How it Happened:
Game 1 vs. ONU
The Panthers took match one to five sets against Ohio Northern but fell short, losing 3-2.
GU came out strong, taking the first and third sets 25-23.
Lainey Hicks led the Panthers in kills, contributing eleven to the team's thirty-nine.
Setter, Emma Ratermann, excelled offensively with thirty-six assists, while Payton Hamm led defensively with twelve digs.
Game 2 vs. CWRU
Greenville gave up three sets to Case Western Reserve, falling 3-0 to them. The Panthers put up a fight with twenty-four kills.
Anna Beth Vancil led this game with nine kills and three block assists. Hamm posted eight digs.
Game 3 vs. JCU
Game three against John Carroll was another close one for the Panthers. GU fought for five sets and took the match 3-2, winning the first, third, and fifth sets.
Greenville put up an outstanding sixty kills with Vancil leading at seventeen.
Defensively, Lucia Garcia and Mia deJesus knocked it out of the park. Garcia had seventeen digs, while deJesus put up eight block assists and one solo block.
This win marks Coach Ackerman's 441st win and a great season to come.

The Panthers (1-2) travel to Rose-Hulman next weekend for the Fightin' Engineers Invitational. They'll play Olivet at 10:00 a.m. and Rose-Hulman at 12:00 p.m. on September 7th.
