ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The women's volleyball team traveled to Augustana (Ill.) for the Viking Classic. The Panthers went 1-2 on the weekend with a win against Buena Vista and losses against Augustana (Ill.) and DePauw.
How it Happened:
Match 1 vs. Augustana (Ill.)
The Panthers took match one against Augustana to four sets. After losing the first two sets, Greenville came back to win set three 25-15. Unfortunately, GU fell to the Vikings in set four.
Greenville's impeccable offense posted fifty-four kills compared to Augustana's forty-one. Anna Beth Vancil led the team with eighteen and a kill percentage of 0.371.
Emma Ratermann also killed it on the court with forty-three assists, four aces, and six digs.
Match 2 vs. DePauw
Greenville battled against DePauw in five close sets, winning the second and third ones.
With fifty kills, the Panthers were trailing the Tigers by only one.
Abby Grohmann dominated offensively with twenty-two kills, hitting .304, while Payton Hamm led the defense with twenty-four digs.
Match 3 vs. Buena Vista
The Panthers quickly took match three against Buena Vista in three sets. Although all three sets were close, GU came out on top with thirty-three kills.
Vancil led the offense once again with a .261 kill percentage, collecting eight kills. Elaina Evers had nine kills and four block assists in match three.
Greenville's defensive leader in this game was Claudia Bonacorsi who posted thirteen digs and two service aces.
Vancil's performance this weekend earned her a spot on the all-tournament team.
