GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's volleyball program hosted three conference teams over the weekend, defeating Lyon, Westminster (Mo.), and Spalding. After a successful weekend, the Panthers are 7-0 in conference.
How it Happened:
Match 1 vs. Lyon
The Panthers fought back from a 1-0 deficit to win the next three games against the Scots.
Beating Lyon 3-1, Greenville put away forty-five kills. Anna Beth Vancil led the team with eleven. Vancil also recorded one solo block and four block assists.
Defensively, Lainey Hicks and Abby Grohmann showed out. Hicks collected nine blocks, and Grohmann helped GU with ten digs.
Match 2 vs. Westminster (Mo.)
Greenville also beat the Blue Jays 3-1 on Saturday morning, this time collecting sixty-one kills.
After losing the third set to Westminster, the Panthers dialed in and executed well on offense. As a team, GU hit a .387 in the fourth set with fifteen kills.
Grohmann absolutely dominated offensively with twenty-two kills and a .333 kill percentage.
Emma Ratermann also did well with fifty-three assists, seven digs, two aces, and two blocks.
Match 3 vs. Spalding
Greenville took Spalding to five sets. It was a back-and-forth match the entire time, but the Panthers ultimately won 3-2.
In the fifth set, the Panthers were down 8-0, but they clawed their way out to tie it up 11-11. They proceeded to fight until they came out on top.
Grohmann had another double-digit game with twenty kills and nineteen digs.
At libero, Lucia Garcia served three aces and had nineteen digs, while Hicks led the team again in blocks.
Grohmann earned herself another SLIAC Player of the Week award after her amazing performance.
